Mullins Grabs Quickfire Double On Gold Cup Day
Willie Mullins continued his fine form at the Cheltenham Festival, as the master of Closutton bagged a quick-fire double as Arctic Fire won the County Hurdle, and Penhill won the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, whish saw the Irish handler build on yesterday's stunning four-timer.
Off the track for over a year, Arctic Fire defied top weight to land the ulta-competitive County Hurdle, as he fought off L'Ami Serge in a memorable finish, which saw Paul Townend bag his first winner of the week, while the pair teamed up for more glory in the next race on another winner for the Emerald Isle team
All Irish eyes were on Death Duty, who had been heavily-backed for the Albert Bartlett, but it was Townend who cruised into contention on board Penhill, and that raider managed to outbattle Monalee in a energy-sapping finish, as the Mullins team recorded a rapid brace, and also their sixth winner of the week, after drawing a blank on the first two days.
